We are all grateful to the many people who helped transform swimwear into the modern day bikini. But if you ask most people who or when it was invented, I would bet most people couldn’t begin to tell you.

(Just a fun fact though: – The modern bikini was invented by French engineer Louis Réard in 1946. He named it after Bikini Atoll in the Pacific) Though bikinis themselves date back much further then that (think athletic wear for athletes in the times of ancient Greece, 1400 BC).

I digress. If you ALSO asked most people the most popular bikini song around, I think it would be safe to say that people would immediately start singing:

“She wore an itsy bitsy teeny weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini….”

I certainly know I would.

That song was written by Lee Pockriss and sadly, he passed away this week at the age of 87.
